Write to us.
Uncursive is made by one person in Budapest. If something isn't working, or you have a question before or after buying, email is the way to reach us, and a person answers.
What helps us answer
Your device model, its iOS version, the Uncursive version (the last row in the app's Settings), which reader you had selected, and what you expected to happen. For a page that failed to convert, the app's Report Page button gathers all of this for you — see the first question below.
Common questions
Reading pages
A page failed to convert.
Open the page. The editor shows why it failed and offers Try Again. If it fails again, tap Report Page. Uncursive prepares an email to us from your own mail account, with an image of the page and the technical details; you see all of it before sending, and nothing is sent until you tap Send.
Check first that the page shows nothing you'd rather not send — a page can hold other people's details too. We delete the image once the fault is fixed, and sooner if you ask.
A word is wrong, or marked [unclear].
Where the reader can't make out a word it writes [unclear] with its best guess inside the brackets, on a highlight. Words it is sure about can still be wrong. The photo sits right above the text; fix the word there. Always check the text against the page before you rely on it.
Which reader should I pick?
Uncursive never picks for you; the first conversion asks, and you can change the choice any time in Settings, under Reading Model.
On-Device (Best): this device reads your pages; the more accurate of the two on-device readers, and the slower one.
On-Device (Fast): this device reads your pages; faster and smaller than On-Device (Best), and less accurate.
Private Cloud Compute: Apple's private servers read your pages, and Apple built them to read a page and not keep it; no download, but your pages leave your device, it needs a connection, and Apple limits how many pages you can convert each day.
“This device doesn't have enough memory for this model.”
Some on-device readers need more free memory than your device has at that moment. Close other apps or restart the device and look again; the check runs each time, and the model can become available again. On-Device (Fast) needs less memory than On-Device (Best), and Private Cloud Compute needs none, because your device isn't the one reading.
Private Cloud Compute stopped converting.
It needs a connection, and Apple limits how many pages it reads for you each day. Wait for the limit to reset, or switch to an on-device reader in Settings under Reading Model; on-device readers have no daily limit and work offline once downloaded.
“This device can't run Uncursive.”
Reading handwriting needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, an iPad with an M-series chip, or iPad mini (A17 Pro), on iOS 27 or later. On other devices the app installs but can't read pages, and offers nothing for sale.
The download is large. Can I get the space back?
An on-device reader downloads once, from Apple, so your pages never have to leave your phone: about 1.5 GB for On-Device (Fast), about 3 GB for On-Device (Best). Wi-Fi recommended. To free the space, open Settings, swipe the model's row and choose Remove. It downloads again the next time you convert a page with it. Private Cloud Compute downloads nothing.
Does it read languages other than English?
English handwriting. Other languages may work, but they aren't promised.
Buying and restoring
I bought the Unlock and the app says I haven't.
Open Settings and tap Restore Purchases. If it says “No purchases to restore”, check that this device is signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account that bought the Unlock. Through Apple's Family Sharing, members of the purchaser's family group can restore it on their own devices.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles payment, receipts and refunds for every app on the App Store. Ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com; your right to cancel is set out in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions. If Apple refunds the Unlock, Uncursive returns to the free-page state, with the free pages you had already used still counted; the pages you converted are not affected.
Is there a subscription?
No. Five free pages, then one purchase: unlimited pages, no expiry, no daily limit from us. The price is shown in the App Store for your country.
Your data and your files
Do my pages leave my phone?
With an on-device reader, no: the page is read on your device and nothing is sent anywhere. With Private Cloud Compute, the page goes to Apple's private servers, which Apple designed to read it and not keep it; the app tells you this and asks once before the first page is sent, and you can switch back to an on-device reader at any time in Settings.
We never see a page either way. Report Page is the only route to us, and only you send it.
Where are my documents?
In the Files app, under On My iPhone › Uncursive (On My iPad on an iPad): a PDF of your pages and a Word-compatible text document, side by side. They are ordinary files, included in your normal device backup.
What do you collect about me?
Nothing. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking; the App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected. The only thing that ever reaches us is an email you choose to send. The privacy policy at uncursive.com/privacy says what we do with that, and what Apple does with a page read by Private Cloud Compute.
Can you delete what I sent you?
Yes. Email us from the address you wrote from and we delete the page image and the email; we may ask you to confirm the request comes from that address. We answer within one month. The privacy policy lists your other rights.
Complaints
To make a complaint, write to us by email. We answer a written complaint in writing, with reasons, within thirty days. If we reject it, we tell you which conciliation board or authority you can turn to; sections 15 and 16 of the License Agreement say how that works.
Report a security issue
If you have found a security vulnerability in Uncursive, email with "Security" in the subject line. Tell us what you found and how to reproduce it. We answer within three working days, and we take no action against anyone who reports in good faith.
